Moving Out: What I Packed in My Suitcase

When moving to the Netherlands, I had very limited luggage space, which meant I could only take the most essential items. Besides a few clothes, I ultimately chose a compact setup that’s easy to carry with me wherever I end up 🙂

Guitars

Ibanez JEM Jr

A signature model by Steve Vai, featuring the distinctive “Monkey Grip” handle, which makes transportation easier and gives the guitar a unique look. It has three pickups in an HSH configuration, offering a wide range of tones—from warm cleans to aggressive distortion. The Double Locking tremolo bridge allows for extreme pitch changes without losing tuning. Perfect for technical playing and dynamic solos.

Fender Ultra

One of Fender’s most versatile Stratocaster models, designed with modern guitarists in mind. It features Noiseless pickups that eliminate unwanted hum, and a Modern D neck profile that provides comfort for both chords and fast solos. The Fender Ultra is an excellent choice for both recording and live performances.

Ibanez GSR180 BK

A compact and lightweight bass that delivers solid sound despite its affordable price. It features two passive pickups and simple electronics, making it reliable and easy to use. It works well for both recording and live performances. Thanks to its comfortable, thin neck, it’s a great choice for guitarists who don’t regularly play bass.

Recording and Music Equipment

Scarlett 4i4

An audio interface from Focusrite that delivers high-quality recordings while remaining compact. It has four line/mic inputs with Focusrite preamps, allowing for vocal and instrument recordings with minimal noise. With two monitor outputs and MIDI connectivity, it easily integrates with other devices. Sturdy, reliable, and widely used in both professional and home studios.

Shure SM58

A legendary dynamic vocal microphone. Known for its durability, resistance to feedback, and warm, clear sound, making it ideal for both recording and live performances.

Shure SM57

One of the most widely used microphones for recording instruments. It accurately captures the tone of guitar amplifiers, drums, and acoustic instruments. Its directional pattern minimizes unwanted background noise, making it ideal for home recordings.

Helix Floor

An advanced guitar effects processor from Line 6. One of the most feature-rich devices of its kind, allowing for the simulation of classic amps and effects without the need for a traditional pedalboard. The Helix Floor has a large screen, an intuitive interface, and extensive tone-shaping capabilities, making it perfect for both recording and live performances.

Ableton Push

A MIDI controller designed for seamless integration with Ableton Live. It enables intuitive composition, beat programming, and sample control. With dynamic pads, it allows expressive playing of virtual instruments, significantly speeding up the creative process.

AKG Studio Headphones

Precision monitoring headphones that provide a neutral sound without boosted bass or artificial midrange. Ideal for mixing and recording, as they reveal nuances in the sound that might be missed on standard consumer headphones.

MacBook and Software

The MacBook works great as a power bank for my phone when going out for longer trips.

Ableton Live 12

One of the most versatile DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) programs, perfect for composing, recording, and mixing. With a large number of built-in effects and samples, it allows for quick creation of professional tracks.

Archetype: Petrucci X
